The 24 Preludes, Op. 34 is a set of short piano pieces composed by Shostakovich in 1933. They are arranged following the circle of fifths, with one prelude in each major and minor key. We will hear 8 arranged for flute, cor anglais and bassoon.

Debussy's Syrinx is based on the mythological story of Pan, a Greek satyr known for falling in love with the nymph Syrinx and credited with the invention of a musical instrument called pan flute, panpipes or syrinx, in memory of the homonymous nymph who lost her life as she was trying to run away from Pan's unwanted courtship.

Six Metamorphoses is based on the epic poem Metamorphoses by the Roman poet Publius Ovidius Naso. The piece is composed of six movements, each drawing from a single narrative of Ovid's poem.

Sixteen Waltzes is a set of 16 short waltzes for piano written by Johannes Brahms. They were composed in 1865, and published in 1866, dedicated to the music critic Eduard Hanslick. The Galliard Trio perform this arranged for flute, oboe and piano.
The Galliard Trio (Wind ensemble)
The Galliard Trio has been performing for 44 years. Since its first appearance in 1981 it has been playing in music clubs, stately homes, churches, schools and arts centres throughout southern England. It often plays in support of good causes such as the National Trust, church restoration funds and other charities.
The Trio has established a reputation for programmes of great variety. Its repertoire is wide, partly because of the different combinations of instruments available and partly because of the arrangements it has made of music by many composers.
The members live within a short distance of each other in North London, but the Trio performs regularly through the south of England.
The Trio has recorded some of its favourite pieces on two CDs which are on sale today.
